Woodford Folk Festival comes to life on New Year’s Eve. It is whatever experience you decide to make it; an adventure you can create yourself.
Experience sultry cabaret at the parlour or take in the unique performance by Meow Meow at the Grande. Wade hip-deep into a broad bayou of the Blues or dust off your dancing shoes and learn how to tap at the dancehall. Participate in the Coopers bar song session or spend your time recording your promise for the fire event. Sit down for an intimate dinner with old and new friends or surround yourself with noise and sip on Shampine’s at the Pineapple Lounge. There are so many, many ways you can celebrate the New Year.
Wherever you choose to delight, the whole festival stops at the tolling of the bell at 11:30pm to experience together 3 minutes of silence. It is at this time we reflect on our journeys, past, present and future and take a moment to pay respect to those who can’t be with us and cast our minds to the mysteries of what the future may hold.
Whether you are able to stay awake all night or catch a little sleep before dawn, greeting the first rays of the new year’s sun at the hilltop ceremony is a tradition at Woodfordia. Tenzin Choegyal, Tashi Lhunpo Monks of Tibet, Velvet Pesu and guest musicians accompany the rising sun with ceremony, ritual and music.
As the sun sets on a whole year, it rises to a brand new one and greeting the new year dawn on the hilltop with stillness, contemplation and sacred rhythm and chant is a moving experience and the perfect way to start the year ahead. A new story, a new beginning.
Born into a family of Tibetan nomads in Mustang on the Tibetan border, Tenzin is an outstanding vocalist, and a master of the dranyen lute and bamboo flute.
Come and join us at Woodford Folk Festival this New Year’s Eve, there are so many new memories to create.
